Poland and Bangladesh: growing trade and prospects for economic cooperation

Trade between Poland and Bangladesh has reached record levels – Polish imports from Bangladesh amounted to nearly $4 billion in 2024. Both countries are seeking opportunities to deepen cooperation, particularly in maritime, energy, and fish processing sectors.

Poland was the sixth country in the world to recognise Bangladesh’s independence in 1972, and diplomatic relations span over half a century. Although bilateral contacts were modest for years, the last decade has brought dynamic growth in trade. Bangladesh exports mainly garments and textiles to Poland, while Poland supplies metals, dairy products, machinery, and ships. The Embassy of Bangladesh in Warsaw, reopened in 2015, plays a growing role in promoting relations.

The Bangladeshi side has expressed particular interest in Polish experience in fish processing, maritime education, and the shipbuilding and port industry. In the context of Bangladesh’s approaching LDC graduation and the potential loss of EU tariff preferences, intensifying economic cooperation with countries like Poland takes on particular strategic importance.
