Speech by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the General Debate of the UN General Assembly

Last Tuesday, the entire Bangladesh nation celebrated the 75th birthday of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Eldest of the five children of the Father of the Nation.

At that time, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina attended the UN General Assembly General Debate from September 21, 2021, where she presented a speech on climate change and economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in keeping with tradition presented her speech in Bangla language, following in the steps of her father and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who addressed the UN in Bangla language in 1974.

The Prime Minister focused particular attention on the pursuit of sustainable development, food security and the elimination of inequality. These topics are extremely important for Bangladesh, which faces cyclones, floods and overpopulation year after year.

During the debate, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina met, among others, the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), whose office is held by António Guterres. He spoke highly of Bangladesh’s development momentum and said, “Bangladesh’s priorities are the priorities of the United Nations, whether it is climate change or the Sustainable Development Goals.”
