In July 2025, the Port of Gdańsk hosted a delegation from the Embassy of Bangladesh led by Ambassador Md Mainul Islam. Discussions focused on establishing direct maritime routes between Poland and Bangladesh, port cooperation, and partnership in LNG infrastructure.
Currently, maritime trade between Poland and Bangladesh takes place exclusively through intermediary transshipment ports such as Colombo and Singapore – no direct container services exist. However, the growing volume of bilateral trade (in 2024, Polish imports from Bangladesh reached nearly $4 billion) and the development of port infrastructure in both countries create real opportunities for establishing regular connections.
The talks covered three main areas: establishing a direct Gdańsk–Chittagong maritime route, partnership between the ports of both countries, and cooperation in LNG infrastructure development utilising the Gdańsk LNG Terminal. The Port of Gdańsk is positioning itself as a gateway to Central and Eastern Europe, and establishing cooperation with Bangladesh aligns with its strategy of expanding eastward connections.
