Three women from Bangladesh included in the list of top 100 scientists

According to the English-language science magazine Asian Scientist, which creates a prestigious listing of scientists from the Asian region – the Asian Scientist 100 list, three women from Bangladesh have joined the ranks of top scientists:

– Dr Salma Sultana,

– Dr Firdausi Qadri,

– Prof Samia Subrina.

The magazine covers the latest science, medicine and technology news from the Asia and Australasia regions. Every year since 2016, Asian Scientist Magazine has compiled a list of Asia’s most outstanding scientists. To be included in the list, scientists must have made a special mark in academia or made a significant scientific discovery.

According to the published list, the designated Bangladeshi nationals have been recognised for their scientific activities and numerous achievements.

  • Dr Salma Sultana- Sultana was awarded the 2020 Norman E. Borlaug Award for Field Research and Application by the World Food Prize Foundation for her work with small-scale farmers in Bangladesh, particularly her efforts involving veterinary outreach, treatment and education.
  • Dr Firdausi Qadri– Retired scientist at the International Centre for Diarrheal Disease Research in Bangladesh, laureate of the 2020 L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Award for her work on understanding and preventing infectious diseases affecting children in developing countries as well as her advocacy of early diagnoses and global vaccination.
  • Prof. Samia Subrina- Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology Bangladesh. Subrina is a recipient of the 2020 OWSD-Elsevier Foundation Award for Early-Career Women Scientists in the Developing World for her research on the properties and uses of nanomaterials.
