A teenager from Bangladesh won the International Children’s Peace Prize for preventing cyberbullying

On 13 November 2020, 17-year-old Sadat Rahman from western Narail district in Bangladesh received the prestigious International Children’s Peace Prize 2020 for developing a mobile application that helps teenagers combat cyber-bullying.

The application enables children to report cases of violence through contact with a team of young people, including Rahman, which work with local police and social workers. In addition, the application includes educational content about cyber-bullying.

“The fight against cyber-bullying is like war, and in this war I am a warrior”. – said Rahman in a passionate speech after the award ceremony in The Hague, transmitted live due to the limitations of coronavirus.

“If everyone supports me, together we will win this fight against cyber-bullying”. – He said. A teenager promised to fight against child abuse on the Internet as long as it would not be eliminated.

Rahman came up with the idea of creating the mobile application ‘Cyber Teens’ after hearing the story of a 15-year-old girl who experienced cyber-bullying and finally committed suicide.

The International Children’s Peace Prize is an annual prize awarded by the Dutch foundation KidsRights. The prize is accompanied by a fund of EUR 100 000, which is invested in projects closely related to the work of the winner.
