Memorandum of Understanding between the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the People’s Republic of Bangladesh signed

According to the portal banglanews24.com, on Monday, September 28th, 2020, both countries signed an appropriate document which sanctions the creation of a mechanism of bilateral consultations.

Bangladeshi Foreign Secretary Ambassador Masud Bin Momen and Nigeria’s Permanent Secretary Ambassador Mustapha Lawal Sulaiman signed the document, each on behalf of his ministry.

In his speech on the occasion of the signing, Ambassador Masud Bin Momen emphasized the need to better understand the untapped political, economic and educational potential of both countries. On behalf of Bangladesh he declared his willingness to strengthen bilateral cooperation in trade and investments. Ambassador Mustapha Lawal Sulaiman expressed his admiration for Bangladesh’s steady and strong economic growth and stressed the need for frequent meetings at the official and unofficial level between representatives of both countries.

The representatives of both countries expressed the hope that the signed document will contribute to the creation of a permanent consultation channel and strengthen the ties between the two countries. It should be pointed out that signing the Memorandum of Understanding is another step in bringing together some of the largest countries in the world in terms of population. Comparing the number of inhabitants, it should be noted that Nigeria with 203 million inhabitants is ranked 7th in the world, while Bangladesh with 163 million inhabitants is ranked 8th. The total population of both countries is 366 million, which is only 80 million less than that of the European Union. This is a clear indication of the demographic and economic potential of both countries, which will continue to grow in the coming years.
